Southeast Working Group

The Southeast Working Group (SEWG) was created in 2014 to provide a public forum to review information on the Sewer System Improvement Program (SSIP) and related SFPUC investments and activities in the Southeast. Like its predecessor, the Digester Taskforce which was created in 2008 as part of the Sewer System Master Planning process, the SEWG was intended to serve as a limited duration advisory group.

What input did the Southeast Working Group provide?

The SEWG provided guidance and leadership to raise the profile of the SFPUC and its role in protecting public health and the environment. The SEWG was also instrumental in contributing to the evaluation and development of the SSIP and ensuring it is responsive to community issues and concerns. The SEWG hosted public plant tours; provided input on the Biosolids Digesters and Headworks projects; informed community investments in youth and adult workforce, education, and small business opportunities; engaged on architecture and aesthetics; helped to assess construction impacts; and commented on environmental processes for SSIP projects.

At the end of 2016, the role played by the SEWG will be incorporated into the Southeast Community Facility (SECF) and its subcommittees. The SFPUC will continue its long-term partnership with the Southeast Bayview Hunters Point community and the SECF. The subcommittees of the SECF will activities will include providing guidance on the design and programming for the new Community Facility at Third and Evans; interim Greenhouse grants program; improvements to the existing SECF and SSIP Improvements. We encourage the public to continue to collaborate with the SFPUC on projects, programs, and neighborhood revitalization through the SECF and other SFPUC advisory bodies.
