Mayor Gavin Newsom’s “Clean Energy, Clean Air” policy brief states his intent to move the City towards a cleaner and more efficient energy system, based on increased renewably generated electricity and energy efficiency.   The Mayor’s plan includes making “renewable energy and energy efficiency priorities within city government” and calls for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) to create energy efficiency plans for Municipal Railway, Port of San Francisco, and San Francisco International Airport.  The plans are to include aggressive five-year goals that will save energy while also saving taxpayer dollars.  On June 22, 2004, the Public Utilities Commission acted to initiate the SFPUC’s Clean Energy, Clean Air Program.
