NORTH OF MARKET
North Shore Force Main Sewer Improvement Project
Following intensive review of the technical issues, including the potential need for trenchless (underground) work in some areas due to substantial utility conflicts, and in order to avoid further additional costs without more in-depth cost-benefit analysis, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) has decided to put the project on hold.
We are currently looking into a number of options to find the best method of construction with the least amount of disruption and with less impact on the budget. Our engineers are working with utility companies to devise a new plan and design for the work needed. Information will be provided as details become available.
Our contractor will be demobilizing, cleaning out the work area and restoring all the potholes along Drumm and Spear streets through August 2010.
The SFPUC appreciates the support of all residents and businesses throughout the whole pre-construction phase.

Lake Merced Pump Station Essential Upgrade
The SFPUC has begun construction work at the Lake Merced Pump Station near Brotherhood Way and Lake Merced Boulevard last month. This pump station supplies water to the Sunset and Sutro reservoirs, which in turn supplies other regions within the City. The continual operation of this facility is critical to the delivery of water to about 60% of San Francisco.
The new facility will consist of two new structures - a new pump building and an electrical utility building, each approximately 8,000 square feet. Due to new seismic standards, American Disability Act requirements, changes in current building codes and regulations, the size of the structure will increase.
New piping entering and leaving the station will be fitted with flexible joints that will allow movement, and prevent rupture during seismic events.
