Fifield-Cahill Ridge Trail

Local nature lovers can enjoy the rare opportunity to hike, bike, or ride their horses through pristine stands of old growth Douglas Fir, evergreen and fragrant coastal scrub while enjoying ridge-top vistas of our watershed lands, reservoirs, the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay. Trained volunteer trail leaders will head excursions three days a week. We will carefully monitor trail use by the public to ensure that there are no significant impacts to the fragile ecosystem.

Small groups of hikers, bicyclists, or equestrians can now make reservations for guided excursions along the Fifield-Cahill Ridge Trail. Because of environmental restrictions, groups must be accompanied by a volunteer trail leader and are limited to approximately 20 people (fewer on horseback), scheduled no more than three times a day on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

You can arrange to hike, ride your bike, or ride your horse in the watershed by using our online reservation system. You can reserve spaces for as many as five people for any one event. To register for an event online, click the link on the next line:

You must have email to use the online reservation system. If you don't have an email address, you can call the automated help line at (650) 652-3203.

Right now we are limited by the number of trail leaders who have agreed to lead events in the Watershed. If you are interested in becoming a trail leader, click on the trail volunteer opportunities link under related documents.

We have noticed many cancellations shortly before a scheduled event. We appreciate and thank users for returning to the site and canceling a reservation that they cannot keep. Canceling such a reservation creates an opportunity for others to hike, bike, or ride the trail.

These late cancellations mean that it may be worth your time to check back the day before or even the day of a scheduled event. There may be open spaces, and we want to accommodate as many people as possible.

You can see our trail totals here

Many of our events are completely booked well in advance of the event date. So what's the easiest way to get an opportunity to hike, bike or ride in the Watershed? That's easy: become a volunteer trail leader. Help yourself and others too.

If you are a trail leader and want to check the schedule, check here.
