Committed to embed sustainability into the business DNA of our agency as a whole, SFPUC launched our sustainability initiative in 2005. We used the international and commonly accepted sustainability guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) as our anchor; then, through lively and consistent engagement with our stakeholders, we identified and customized the triple bottom line into the six issue areas most material to our performance as a water, wastewater and power utility.
Over three years, we continued to work with stakeholders to develop the KPIs for our first, or “Baseline” Sustainability Assessment for Fiscal Year (FY) 2005-06. We then used this Baseline to develop our FY2008 Sustainability Plan and Program that set out 20 strategies to drive and improve our performance. Committed to continuous improvement and transparency, we experimented in FY2008-09 with a subset of our KPIs for our quarterly and 2nd annual reporting, and followed in March 2011 with the integration of our sustainability plan with SFPUC-wide strategic goals and objectives. Since then, we’ve continued to issue our annual performance reports in FY2010-11, FY2011-12, and FY2012-13. Now, with these current FY2013-14 performance results, we have six years of reasonably consistent performance data - data that provides you and us a quick view of our strengths and challenges over time; data that can help advance our emerging and exciting capacity to trend our strategic sustainability performance and allow longer term foresight planning.
SFPUC continues to mature in its commitment to continuous improvement of its triple bottom line as integrated into our strategic sustainability framework, and invites you to view our progress through the following links:
