The Green Landscaping Ordinance was adopted on April 22, 2010 and applies to new development projects and significant alteration projects. The Ordinance requires landscape plantings and increased permeability of front yards, around parking lots, and in the public right-of-way, as well as ornamental fencing around vehicular use areas. Plants in the public right-of-way are required to be low water use and climate appropriate for the purpose of complying with the Green Landscaping Ordinance.
The Green Landscaping Ordinance also requires compliance with the San Francisco Administrative Code Chapter 63, also known as the Water Efficient Irrigation Ordinance. For more information on the Water Efficient Irrigation Ordinance, click HERE.
