The rebuild of the Palo Alto Pump Station is scheduled to begin September 2007 with completion expected in Spring 2009. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission will demolish the existing Palo Alto Pump Station located at the western end of Palo Alto Avenue near Glenbrook and replace it with a new, modern facility. Built in 1957, the water pumping station has exceeded its useful life and no longer meets building and seismic codes. Its mechanical and electrical equipment have since become outdated and are in poor condition. The age and normal wear of the equipment have reduced the efficiency of the pump station and are preventing it from operating reliably. The building design was approved by the San Francisco Arts Commission.
