The SFPUC is responsible for supplying emergency drinking water in the City after a major disaster that damages or contaminates our water system.
This spring the SFPUC launched a new program to include sixty-seven San Francisco fire hydrants as emergency drinking water distribution sites. These potable water hydrants throughout the City are identified with a painted blue "water drop" and are located along major water mains less likely to fail following a major earthquake. SFPUC crews will staff and support these distribution sites to provide fresh drinking water to the public after a major emergency.
Help your household prepare for an emergency by locating the emergency drinking water hydrants in your community before a disaster.
To locate the emergency drinking water hydrants near your home or business, download the map on this webpage. Emergency hydrant maps are also available at SFPUC Customer Services, 1155 Market Street, San Francisco.
