Water Quality Tests Conclude S.F. Beaches Safe for Public, Precautionary Beach Postings Removed

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission today reported that beach water quality tests conducted over the weekend showed bacteria counts below normal levels and no public health concerns. City officials are now removing beach warning signs posted on Friday, February 1, that urged the public not enter the waters at Crissy Field, Baker Beach, Aquatic Park, and China Basin. San Francisco beaches along the north shore, were posted as a proactive, precautionary response to the remote possibility of elevated bacteria levels due to the sewage spill that occurred in Marin County by a facility operated by the Sewerage Agency of Southern Marin.

“Events like this remind us of the economic and recreational importance of our beaches and waterways,” said Mayor Gavin Newsom. “We must continue to be vigilant, as a city and region, protecting the health of the San Francisco Bay.”
