The natural decomposition of organic materials leads to valuable and necessary organic matter for our soils. Composting expedites this natural process andgenerates concentrated, high quality organics.
The compost produced at the Merced County Facility and given away at San Francisco Public Utilities Commission's compost events is Class A. Since May 2007, the SFPUC has held three free compost giveaway events and gave away close to 66 tons of compost in total.
Pick up your free compost on Saturday, October 11, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at our Big Blue Bucket Eco-Fair.
* Entrance to Big Blue Bucket Eco-Fair for pedestrians only at Jerrold Ave. and Phelps St.
* Street parking will be available in the area.
* Limit two bags of compost per person.
* To get compost you will need to get a ticket from the Compost Giveaway fair booth.
* Once you get your ticket, you can pick up your compost bags on foot or with your vehicle. There will be directional signs indicating where to pick up your compost.
