Compost

The natural decomposition of organic materials leads to valuable and necessary organic matter for our soils. Composting expedites this natural process and generates concentrated, high quality organics.

The compost produced at the Merced County Facility and given away at San Francisco Public Utilities Commission's compost events is Class A. Since May 2007, the SFPUC held five free compost giveaway events and gave away more than 100 tons of compost in total.

For more information on our biosolids and compost program, please read our Biosolids - Compost Flyer and the FAQ (downloadable in PDF at bottom of page). You can also learn more about biosolids from the Biosolids page of our website.
