The natural decomposition of organic materials leads to valuable and necessary organic matter for our soils. Composting expedites this natural process andgenerates concentrated, high quality organics.

The compost produced at the Merced County Facility and given away at San Francisco Public Utilities Commission's compost events is Class A. Since May 2007, the SFPUC has held four free compost giveaway events and gave away more than 80 tons of compost in total.

If you have missed our Big Blue Bucket Eco-Fair in October 2008, check back this page for our next compost giveaway. For more information, please email ibereket@sfwater.org or call 415-554-0741.

For more information on our compost, please read the Compost Fact Sheet and the FAQ. You can also learn more about biosolids on the Biosolids page of our website.
