Adopt a Catch Basin
Published: 10/02/2008  |  Updated: 01/07/2009
Published By: Communications and Public Outreach

San Francisco has close to 23,000 catch basins. Catch basins are those semi-circular grids that you see at almost every street corner throughout the City. They are the entryway from our streets to our sewer system. Litter and leaves can clog the catch basins, which, during rainstorms, may result in neighborhood flooding.

To learn more about catch basins, read our catch basin fact sheet.

For more information or if you are interested in adopting a catch basin, please email ibereket@sfwater.org or call 415-554-0741.
