Project Description

The SFPUC is required to conduct benthic infauna community studies in the near shore waters of the Gulf of the Farallones between Rocky Point, Marin County and Point San Pedro, San Mateo County. The benthic infauna community study includes the identification of benthic invertebrates at 47 to 55 stations within the study area. Each sample is sieved through 1.0 mm and 0.5 mm sieves, yielding 94-110 individual samples annually.

Benthic studies conducted in creeks and embayments around the perimeter of San Francisco Bay and in streams, lakes and reservoirs in the SFPUC watersheds may also be conducted.

To ensure reliable results, a third party performs taxonomic quality control and evaluations. According to laboratory protocols a portion of the benthic community samples are subject to quality control reviews of the sorting and taxonomic procedures.

10/24/14- The selection process is now complete and consultant, Susan McCormick, will be recommended for award of the contract.
