Cal State Constructors, the contractor working for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission has begun construction of the new Forest Knolls Pump Station (February 2008).  The construction completion target date is Fall 2009.

The pump station will be rebuilt closer to Clarendon Avenue on Christopher Drive.  The project scope includes demolition of the existing building and construction of a new reinforced concrete building.  Two new pumps (40 hp each), sprinkler system, new electrical system, new standby generator and encasement, replacement of two hydropneumatic tanks, security fencing and monitoring systems, water quality monitoring and disinfection systems, landscaping and other site work will be part of the new facility. Disposal of hazardous materials and soils will be included as required.

During construction, a temporary pump station will be installed to facilitate continued operations. This project will also provide the necessary facilities to support a new security and data project by adding automation where needed.

Forest Knolls Tank Seismic Upgrade

The tank upgrade will include the retrofit and seismic rehabilitation of the existing 100,000 gallon steel tank. During this retrofit, a new foundation; new isolation valves and vaults, new inlet and outlet piping to maximize circulation, retaining wall, security fencing and monitoring system, and access ladders and safety platforms on the tank will be added.  An access road and site improvements including erosion control and drainage, water quality improvements (sampling, disinfection); and cathodic protection and monitoring system are also a part of this project. Work will be done simultaneously with the Forest Knolls Pump Station work.
