Project: Alemany Pump Station Upgrade
Monterey Mechanical, the contractor working for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission has begun construction on the new Alemany Pump Station (Spring 2008).  The target completion date for this project is Fall 2009

This project will rebuild the Alemany Pump Station and generator building. Built in 1941, the existing water pump station facility, pumping equipment and piping have exceeded their useful life and are in need of replacement. The existing pump station is made of wood frame construction that no longer complies with current building and seismic codes. The existing building is inadequate to withstand a moderate earthquake and susceptible to fire.

The SFPUC engineers and consultants have evaluated the facility in accordance with new seismic, operating and water quality regulations to determine what is needed in this new facility. Now in the initial design phase, they are ready to present the project along with design options to the community.

This project is one of more than 70 projects included in the Water System Improvement Program (WSIP) approved by voters in November 2002 to repair, replace and seismically upgrade the Hetch Hetchy water system.
