The Harry Tracy Water Treatment Plant treats surface water supplies from the Peninsula reservoirs for delivery to customers in Northern San Mateo County and in San Francisco. This project would include process and seismic improvements to the existing water treatment and filtration systems to facilitate the ability to reliably deliver treated water. The work has been divided into three projects to facilitate full-scale performance testing and subsequent construction of the improvements. The project is provided in response to the Seismic Reliability and Delivery Reliability levels of service goals.
Description The project would consist of:
- Demo Filters: This project was completed in November 2006. It consisted of the retrofit of two filters and completion of a performance demonstration test. The successful test results enabled the following project elements to proceed ahead of schedule.
- Coagulation & Flocculation: This project was combined with the Remaining Filters phase below. It would entail improving the operation and efficiency of the chemical mixing pumps; providing an automated dilution water system; and reconfiguring the chemical injectors to improve performance. The project will also reconfigure the baffling system to reduce headloss by widening the channels, add new mechanical mixers to improve performance and efficiency, and seismically retrofit the walkways and basin walls.
- Remaining Filters: This project would include modifying eight of the ten existing filters (two were replaced in the 2006 project), replacing control and supply valves, providing a filter to waste system, installing new filter underdrains, and seismically retrofitting the basin walls.
