Thank you for your patience as we near completion of the Sunset Reservoir North Basin Seismic Upgrade. Construction is now complete coming in two months ahead of schedule, and final completion is planned for Fall 2008. Over the next few months, neighbors can expect to see irrigation and perimeter fence installation and the addition of landscaping. By late summer or early fall, the contractor will remove trailers.
Sunset Reservoir is one of three terminal reservoirs in the Regional Water System that is located in San Francisco. The reservoir, which was constructed in 1938, is seismically vulnerable and in need of general rehabilitation. This upgrade project would address both areas of need and is provided in response to the Seismic Reliability level of service goals.

Description
The project, which is now under construction and scheduled for completion in Fall 2008, primarily consists of:

  • Seismic rehabilitation, which would include stabilization of the soil dam embankment (completed); a retrofit of the walls and roof using seismic joints, shear walls, diagonal bracing, and struts; and foundation improvements.
  • General rehabilitation, which would include repairing deteriorated concrete, replacing part of the reservoir lining material, replacing inlet piping, installing security fencing, upgrading the landscaping, and other miscellaneous site improvements.
