Project: Adit Leak Repair - Crystal Springs / Calaveras

Project–At–A–Glance

WSIP Region
Peninsula

Location
San Mateo County

Project Completed
July 2008

Project Cost
$3M

Project Completed: July 2008

The adit structures function as the outlet facilities from the reservoirs and are critical links in the water supply system. These facilities contain the valves and piping used to control withdrawal of water from the reservoirs through horizontal tunnels. Leakage into the structures made access difficult and unsafe and also resulted in deterioration of equipment. The project was completed in July, 2008 coming in under budget and ahead of schedule. This project is provided in response to the Delivery Reliability level of service goal.

Description
This project repaired adit structures at Lower Crystal Springs, Calaveras, and San Antonio Reservoirs that have been damaged by leakage.   It also added dewatering pumps where needed.  Even with the addition of the work at San Antonio Reservoir, construction for the project came in more than $500,000 under budget.  Construction was also completed within its estimated schedule. The additional reservoir adit was added when the initial planning study determined that repairs were also needed at this facility.
