Monterey Mechanical, the contractor working for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission began construction on the new Alemany Pump Station in the Spring 2008 with a construction completion target in the Winter 2010.

This project will rebuild the Alemany Pump Station and generator building. Built in 1941, the existing water pump station facility, pumping equipment and piping have exceeded their useful life and are in need of replacement. The existing pump station is made of wood frame construction that no longer complies with current building and seismic codes. The existing building is inadequate to withstand a moderate earthquake and susceptible to fire.

The SFPUC engineers and consultants have evaluated the facility in accordance with new seismic, operating and water quality regulations to determine what is needed in this new facility.
