The proposed Alameda Creek Fishery Enhancement Project would allow for the recapture of up to 6,300 acre-feet of water released from the Calaveras Reservoir to enhance the local fishery and improve downstream riparian habitat in the portion of the creek between Calaveras Creek and the Sunol Valley Water Treatment Plant. The released water would be recaptured at a suitable point downstream for return to the regional water system.   This project is consistent with the terms of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with California Department of Fish and Game for fisheries habitat enhancement. This project is provided in response to the Water Supply level of service goal.

Description
This proposed project is still in the alternatives analysis phase, so a definitive scope has not yet been developed. The project budget is now based on an allocation of funds that are a carryover from previous planning efforts.

The currently anticipated scope may include:

• Recapture facilities that may include new alluvial wells, rehabilitation of the existing Sunol infiltration galleries, and installation of a well field near the Sunol quarries. Associated with these facilities may be a system of slurry-type cutoff walls along the quarries that may be implemented in conjunction with the quarry leaseholders.
• Treatment of the recaptured water may be required in addition to that which would be provided by the Sunol Valley Water Treatment Plant. .
• Conveyance of the water from the recapture points to the existing Sunol Valley water storage sites may include rehabilitation of the existing Sunol Pump Station and installation of new pipelines.
