Four Bay Area water utilities -- the East Bay Municipal Utility District, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, Contra Costa Water District and Santa Clara Valley Water District – hailed a nearly $1 million grant to help fund the next phase of a pilot regional desalination plant, announced Monday by the California Department of Water Resources (DWR). The $949,300 grant will be used toward the creation of a $1.9 million joint Bay Area Regional Desalination Project, which is a small-scale desalination project to test new technologies and methods for the use of desalinated water in case of emergency or drought.    Read more
