Under direction, supervises a "heavy gang" in the construction, maintenance and repair of high voltage overhead transmission, distribution lines and streetlight systems; and performs related duties as required.  Requires considerable responsibility for: interpreting and instructing on existing methods and procedures relative to transmission line construction, maintenance and repair activities; making contact with other departmental personnel, other utilities and the general public on line construction, maintenance and repair problems; promote safety and safe working practices; and gather and prepare time and material reports on work performed. 

Essential functions include: the ability to climb poles and towers up to 125 feet; work in underground vaults; lift and carry normal tools of the trade; drive a line truck; work around distribution and transmission voltage up to 230 KV; work in inclement weather; work with high voltage switch gear; plan and supervise the work of subordinates; read and interpret plans, drawings and specifications, must be familiar with single phase and three phase transformers and associated switchyard equipment; There is currently one vacancy located in San Francisco. The annual salary range is $78,130- $94,978 enter @ step 5.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Four (4) years of verifiable journey-level experience in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead transmission systems.  AND
2. Possession of a current valid Class B driver's license.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

1. One (1) year lead or supervisory experience in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead transmission systems.
2. Ability to use AutoCAD to submit information of single line diagram and layouts.

NOTE:  Positions located in Moccasin, California, require the possession of a valid Class A driver’s license within six months of appointment.

Training and Experience: Candidates training and experience will be evaluated in terms of its duration and relevance to job-related knowledge, skills and abilities of electrical theory and practices; knowledge of overhead transmission systems; and supervision for placement on the eligible list.  Weight……………………………………………………100%.

DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING:

Prospective and current employees in Class 7229 Transmission Line Supervisor I may be subject to drug and/or alcohol testing in accordance with Federal rules and regulations.

The City and County of San Francisco’s substance abuse Policy, in compliance with the Department of Transportation Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 employing the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations, requires drug and alcohol testing for employees in “safety-sensitive” positions.  All 7229 Transmission Line Supervisor I positions qualify as “safety-sensitive” as defined by the FMCSA and FTA regulations.  The selected applicants for safety-sensitive positions will be required to pass a Pre-employment drug test prior to appointment and shall be subject to Random, Post-Accident, Reasonable Suspicion, Return-To-Duty, and Follow-Up testing during employment.  Prior to appointment to an FMSCA position, each applicant who has participated in a DOT drug and alcohol testing program within the immediately preceding two years will be required to sign a consent form authorizing the City to contact his/her prior employer concerning his/her drug and alcohol test history.
