Under general supervision, performs skilled duties in overhauling, repairing, testing and calibrating water meters in both shop and field operations, using existing methods and procedures.  Requires responsibility for making routine contacts with the general public, consumers, tenants and property owners; preparing routine records and reports indicating time involved and work accomplished in repairing and processing meters.

The essential function of this class involves sustained physical effort performing continuous shop work or occasional heavy fieldwork, which requires manual effort and dexterity with continuous exposure to minor accident hazards and some disagreeable elements.  Incumbents will be required to wear protective apparel and to use protective devices while working with water meter equipment.  The annual salary range is: $57,174 - $69,472.    

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. One year of verifiable experience in the installation, maintenance and/or repair of water meters, gas meters or hydraulic, liquid/fluid metering equipment;  AND 
2. The ability to safely lift and carry a water meter or metering equipment weighing at least 65 pounds;  AND
3. Possession of a current valid driver’s license.

VERIFICATION:  All applicants including employees of the City and County of San Francisco must submit written verification of qualifying experience along with the completed application at the time of filing. Verification must be on employer’s letterhead and must show the name of the applicant, job titles, dates of service and duties performed.

A waiver of verification of experience may be granted in unusual circumstances where verification is impossible to obtain.  Applicant must submit a written and signed request for such a waiver with his/her application at the time of filing.  Requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  Failure to submit all required documents may result in rejection of the application.

Candidate’s training and experience will be evaluated in terms of its duration and relevance to job-related knowledge, skills and abilities, which includes but not limited to ability to repair water, gas, hydraulic fluid/liquid meters and knowledge of applicable safety methods and procedures.
