Under general supervision, the Electrical Line Worker performs skilled line work in the installation, maintenance, construction and repair of equipment for High Voltage Transmission Systems, as well as rigging blocks, splicing wires and operating hydraulic lift buckets. Keeps routine records of work time and materials used, performs related duties as required. These positions may be located at Moccasin, CA, approximately 140 miles from San Francisco or at Treasure Island.
The essential functions of this class include climbing high poles and transmission towers using rigging techniques; requires the ability to analyze and locate faults in transmission lines and make necessary repairs; knowledge of safety measures and theory of electricity as applied to overhead and underground lines. Requires knowledge in line construction and maintenance methods and procedures. Incumbent must drive overhead line trucks to remote locations.
Nature of work involves considerable physical effort and dexterity with frequent exposure to inclement weather conditions. In emergencies, overtime work is required as well as the use of respirators when necessary. The annual salary is $97,344.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Two years of verifiable work experience as a journey-level line worker working with pole and tower transmission systems up to 230,000 volts, with the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground lines; OR
2. Completion of a State certified electrical line apprenticeship program; AND
3. Possession of a current valid Class C driver’s license. Positions located at Moccasin must obtain a Class A driver’s license and positions located at Treasure Island must obtain a Class B driver’s license within 6 months of appointment. Failure to obtain the appropriate driver’s license within the specified time period will be cause for termination.
NOTES:
1. Applicants may substitute two (2) years of verifiable experience in an electrical line work apprenticeship for one year of the requisite journey-level experience.
2. Experience as an Electrician will NOT be considered qualifying.
3. Additional compensation is available for employees assigned to work with high voltage overhead and underground transmission systems.

The Certification Rule for this examination will be Rule of three scores.
The department manager may administer additional selection procedures upon certification in order to make final hiring decision. If additional selection procedures are administered, candidates may be required to demonstrate proficiency in pole and tower climbing, or use a bucket truck in order to dead-end a guy wire on a column and to position wire for splicing.
